Planning a Backyard Wedding? Don’t Forget About the Restrooms.

Backyard weddings can be some of the most personal celebrations. You get to choose a property that means something to you, create your own layout, and build the wedding almost entirely from scratch. With a tent, lighting, beautiful furniture, florals, and décor, an ordinary backyard can become an incredible wedding space.

However, there are also practical details that traditional wedding venues already have figured out. One of the biggest? The bathrooms. When you’re planning a backyard wedding, it’s worth thinking about where your guests will use the washroom long before the wedding day arrives.

Do You Really Want Everyone Using Your House?

If you’re hosting a smaller gathering, the bathrooms inside your home may work perfectly well. A larger wedding is different.

Think about how many people could be going in and out of your home throughout an entire afternoon and evening. Guests may also have to walk through private areas of the house just to find the bathroom. Then there is the additional cleaning, wet or muddy shoes, lineups, and general traffic through your home.

Depending on the property, your home’s water and septic setup may also be something you’ll want to consider before relying on your household bathrooms for a large event. This is where a restroom trailer rental can make backyard wedding planning much easier. Instead of directing everyone inside, you can create a dedicated washroom area outside for your guests.

A Portable Washroom Doesn’t Have to Feel Like a Porta Potty

One reason couples sometimes overlook portable washrooms is because they immediately picture traditional portable toilets. A restroom trailer offers a very different experience.

Our trailer also has a 160 US gallon onboard water tank, which can be helpful when planning weddings on properties where water access needs additional consideration. It’s one of those rentals that may not be the first thing you save to your wedding inspiration board, but your guests will certainly appreciate having it.

Think About Where Your Restroom Trailer Will Go

Like your tent, the restroom trailer needs to be considered when you’re planning the overall layout of your property. You want it close enough that guests can easily access it without placing it directly beside your dining or reception area.

Think about the route guests will take from the tent to the washrooms.

Will the pathway be easy to navigate after dark?

Is the ground reasonably level?

Can the trailer be delivered to the location?

Is there enough room for our delivery vehicle to access the area?

These are much easier questions to answer during the planning stages than during wedding week.

Lighting is important too. If the restroom trailer sits away from the main tent, make sure guests can comfortably see the pathway after sunset. Solar lighting can be an easy way to help illuminate outdoor routes and other important areas around the property.

You’re Creating a Wedding Venue From Scratch

One of the best ways to approach a backyard wedding is to stop thinking of it as simply having a wedding at home. You’re temporarily creating your own wedding venue. That means considering many of the same things an established venue would provide.

You’ll need somewhere for guests to sit and eat. You’ll need lighting once the sun goes down. You’ll need space for catering, parking, music, dancing, and, of course, washrooms.

A tent can create your reception space.

Tables and chairs create your dining area.

Lighting transforms the property after dark.

A dance floor gives everyone somewhere to celebrate.
