What Do You Need for a Wedding in an Open Field?

An open field can make an incredible wedding location. You have beautiful scenery, plenty of space, and the freedom to create a wedding that looks completely different from a traditional venue. But there’s one important thing to remember. A field gives you the location. You still need to create the venue.

When you’re starting with an empty property, there are several practical things you’ll need to consider before bringing in the beautiful details.

Start With Your Wedding Tent

For most field weddings, the tent becomes the main reception space. When choosing your tent, don’t think about guest count alone. You’ll also need room for tables, chairs, a dance floor, bar, DJ, catering areas, and any other features you want underneath it.

The location matters too. Tent installations require suitable ground and enough space around the structure for proper installation. Access for our delivery and installation vehicles also needs to be considered.

Underground utilities must be located and marked before tent installation. Private services, including sprinkler systems, also need to be identified. If you’re unsure whether an area of your property will work, a site visit can help answer many of these questions ahead of time.

Where Will Everyone Use the Washroom?

This is one of the most important questions for an open-field wedding. If there isn’t a building nearby, you’ll need to provide washroom facilities for your guests. A restroom trailer rental allows you to bring comfortable washrooms directly to the property.

Our restroom trailer features an indoor washroom environment and air conditioning. It also has a 160 US gallon onboard water tank, which can be helpful for properties where water access requires additional planning.

Think about placement when you’re designing your wedding layout. The trailer should be convenient for guests without becoming a focal point of the reception. You’ll also need suitable access for delivery.

Power, Lighting and Guest Access Matter Too

An empty field probably doesn’t have conveniently placed electrical outlets. Talk with your DJ, caterer and other vendors about their power requirements. Determine what is already available on the property and whether you’ll need another power source.

Lighting is another important consideration. Your reception tent needs enough lighting for dinner, speeches, dancing, and everything happening throughout the evening. You’ll also want to consider parking areas, pathways, washrooms, tent entrances, and other places guests will use after dark.

Finally, think about how everyone will get there. A beautiful field at the back of a property may look perfect in photographs, but your rental company, caterer, guests, and other vendors still need practical access.
